Wilco Area Career Center CTE students attend the SkillsUSA Amplify Advocacy Conference
The Wilco Area Career Center CTE students had the unique opportunity to participate in the Amplify Advocacy Conference at the State Capital on March 4th and 5th with Wilco Fire Science Instructor Mark Oglesby and Special Population Coordinator Julia Oglesby. This event was designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate for their education and future careers effectively. It was a platform for them to learn about the legislative process, develop their public speaking and networking skills, and understand the importance of civic engagement.
The students participated in workshops and seminars led by experienced professionals and educators. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, including leadership development, effective communication, and the role of advocacy in shaping educational policies. The highlight of the event was the students' interaction with Illinois State Representative Dagmara Avelar.
