Visit to St. Joseph's Medical Center

On Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, the Intro to Health Profession class embarked on an enlightening visit to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet, IL. The event was orchestrated by the Regional Manager of Experience and Volunteers, Kelly Kuyawa, alongside the Intro to Health Professions Instructor, Michelle Sharp.

The visit to St. Joseph's Medical Center was a vital opportunity for Intro to Health Professions class students to gain firsthand experience and insight into the medical field. It was a chance for them to witness the inner workings of a hospital environment, understand the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals, and spark their interest in pursuing careers in health services.

St. Joseph’s Medical Center, a renowned healthcare facility in Joliet, IL, has provided exceptional medical care for the community for decades.

Kelly Kuyawa and Michelle Sharp meticulously planned the day to ensure that the students received a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare environment. The visit commenced with a guided tour of the medical center, where students were introduced to the Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, MRI, ECHO Cardiography, Pediatrics, Oncology, Lab, and Pathology.

During the interactive sessions, students had the opportunity to engage with doctors, nurses, and staff. They learned about the intricacies of patient care, the importance of teamwork in healthcare settings, and the challenges faced by medical professionals. The discussions were enriched with personal stories and experiences, making the sessions both informative and inspiring.

The students of Wilco’s Intro to Health Professions class expressed their profound gratitude to Kelly Kuyawa for organizing such an insightful and enriching visit. Her efforts in planning and executing the day’s activities ensured the students had a memorable and impactful experience.
